Hi, I’m Christelle!

I thought you might want to know who the Healthy Homemaker is, so here is a little bit about me…

This is my family: my hubby Shawn (the adventure seeker and the fun one), me (creative and slightly opinionated), our eldest, M, is 6 (loving, feisty and LOOOOVES to read) , and our youngest, E, is 3 (she’s a good mix of introversion and determination). We live in sunny South Africa, in the heart of the Winelands district, so we are surrounded by the mountains and wine farms, but we also live close enough to the beach that I get to walk there a few days a week.

I work as a Health Coach, so while I have a business-orientated website for those services, but I have dreamed for more than a decade about having a blog to share some thoughts and recipes with you, that are perhaps a little more personal, like the discussions around my kitchen table.

I chose the name Healthy Homemaker because it is what I want to grow into and what I am passionate about: healthy homes and healthy families make up the fibre of a healthy society. I want to help people grow in those areas, as I am growing into it myself.

I don’t have it all together, but I believe that being imperfect is not something that disqualifies us. We can all give, no matter where we are in our journey. So, you won’t find a lot of “perfect” here, but you will find a whole lot of “real” – if you don’t mind the messiness, then welcome home, kick off your shoes and join the conversation…

What I do…

I have always been someone that needs a variety of things to keep me going. Currently I wear three different hats in terms of work…

Health Coaching

As a health coach, I offer personalized health coaching, workshops, and I also offer my services as a consultant for restaurants and other food businesses that want to make their offering more relevant to those struggling with health issues. You can fine more information about those services on my Re+ Coaching website.

Food Club

I host what iscalled a Food Club from my home. This means that I serve members of my local community by being the link between our group and local food businesses, so that we can buy good quality food directly from our suppliers. It’s a win-win system, and a beautiful way of nourishing our bodies and the local economy.

The complexity of the South African Food Landscape
I have been sitting on the idea for this blog for months, and started formulating it in my mind 100 times, yet I have not gotten to the place of writing it, because I am both uniquely qualified and completely unqualified to write this. BUT, I cannot shake the feeling...
A letter to my friend Wou-Mari, as we celebrate a life well lived
Friendships are funny things. People come into our lives, and sometimes, for who knows what reason, we get to be invited into someone else’s life for a season. I have not been able to nail down why certain relationships become deeper friendships and others not, other...
What is a Health Coach?
About two years ago I was looking to make a change: I was burnt out and so tired, and I wanted to change my career to something that would incorporate my love for people and food. Something that would truly make people's lives better. A few months before that I had a...
A Mother’s day letter to my beautiful friend, while you wait for your miracle baby…
Over the past few weeks, as the shops and my Facebook feed have been flooded with Mother’s day special offers and quotes, I have spent some time thinking about what the last few months have been like for me, I have thought about my own mother and the treasure she is...
